ING in the community

ING in the community
As a major international company, ING has a responsibility to make a positive contribution to society. Our employees are the cornerstone of the success of our community investment programmes in both developed and developing communities. They are committed to donating money or doing voluntary work for our global programmes or for one of the many programmes that have been developed by our local branches.

With 101.000 employees in more than 40 countries, ING is part of many communities. And we work hard to strengthen them from the inside out. We roll up our sleeves, get involved and make a difference.

  •  ING Chances for Children

Education: Every Child’s Right
By supporting quality educational programmes, ING Chances for Children empowers children worldwide to discover their own potential and enable them to build a better future for themselves and for the community around them.

Children are the cornerstones of a well-developed world. They are the leaders of tomorrow and their formative years are of crucial importance. Without education, their future is uncertain.

Supporting education in the communities where we do business
Healthy communities make good business sense, but ING’s commitment to children’s education is about more than that. At ING, we believe in giving back to the communities where we operate. That is why ING Chances for Children encourages employees to support local organizations dedicated to children’s education.

Supporting education where needed most, ING Chances for Children & UNICEF
ING has joined forces with UNICEF and our global partnership has been running since 2005. Together we are dedicated to supporting children’s education, thereby contributing to the Second Millennium Development Goal of the United Nations. As one of UNICEF’s biggest international corporate partners, we support education-focused projects in Brazil, South Africa, Zambia, India and Ethiopia.

ING Global Challenge
The ING Global Challenge is an annual ING event that captures the charitable spirit of our employees everywhere. On the United Nations International Day of the Child in November employees across the organisation come together to volunteer or fundraise for ING Chances for Children projects.

With more than 20% of our employees participating in 38 countries, the 2010 ING Chances for Children Global Challenge proved to be a great success.

  • Financial Education & Entrepreneurship

We want to empower individuals to achieve financial independence and become self-sufficient individuals. We focus our efforts at investing in financial and business literacy and supporting entrepreneurs with their micro-and small businesses. Our initiatives are aimed at children, women, micro- and small business entrepreneurs.

Besides our global programmes, ING business units have started many other local initiatives that suit the need of their local community.

  • Environment

The goal of the ‘ING Goes Green’ programme is to encourage employees to make their own working environment greener, and for employees to get involved in the preservation of biodiversity and the promotion of a cleaner environment. Together we can make our commitment to environmental care even more tangible.

ING Goes Green encourages employees to make their own workplace greener and more eco-friendly with environmental tips and tricks. The programme also focuses on employee awareness and community involvement by planting trees, making donations to zoological gardens, cleaning beaches and by preserving a wide range of other ecological areas.

  • Disaster Relief

ING Disaster Relief Fund
In 2009 ING Group and the Netherlands Red Cross entered into a partnership to offer help in the event of natural disasters and other catastrophes around the world. When a severe disaster occurs anywhere in the world, we aim to financially respond within 72 hours. The Netherlands Red Cross works around the world together with sister Red Cross organizations and other aid agencies to get emergency and recovery relief efforts to disaster victims as quickly and efficiently as possible.
