Green finance
ING’s Green Finance Department provides loans for environmentally friendly projects.
The projects are certified by the Dutch government in areas such as renewable energy, soil sanitation and biological agriculture. Recent projects include a CO2 pipeline project and the restoration of a dune landscape in the Netherlands.
Creative connections - The CO2 pipeline project
The Natural Resources team of ING Wholesale Banking arranged EUR 70 million financing for a project that transported excess CO2 from a Dutch refinery through a pipeline distribution network to hundreds of nearby greenhouses. CO2 is applied in greenhouses as a crucial ingredient for growth. By applying CO2 from the refinery, greenhouse growers no longer have to burn natural gas solely to produce CO2. As a result, CO2 emissions are permanently reduced by 170,000 tons per year. ING ensured the project was accredited by the Dutch government as a green project, making it eligible for green funding from Postbank Groen.
