ING For Something Better

Corporate Responsibility Report 2009

Our corporate responsibility report "ING in Society" provides an overview of our environmental, social and ethical performance in 2009, and sets out our goals and ambitions for the future. ING has been measuring, tracking and monitoring its performance in the ethical, social and environmental field since 1995, which helps us to continuously improve our track record.

What's new this year?

Last year marked a new era for ING. Adapting to the changed financial landscape required us to look at our company's culture, the values we have in place, and how we balance the interests of our stakeholders. That is why we started initiatives to be more transparent and open for feedback about the way we operate. In the spirit of this, our CR Report also includes stakeholders' voices such as Oxfam Novib, Milieudefensie (Friends of the Earth) and UNICEF, as well as ING customers and employees. Furthermore, we are integrating sustainability into the personal accountability and performance objectives of our senior management. Their performance objectives will increasingly be linked to non-financial drivers set out in the strategy chapter in the report.

Key performance indicators (1)

Since 2007 we report on eight key performance indicators (KPIs) in our CR Report. Last year we have included two more (Dow Jones Sustainability Index and the FTSE4Good). All of the KPIs relate directly to ING's strategy on corporate responsibility and are crucial in measuring our CR performance. They are the result of the feedback received from investors, analysts, NGOs, customers, employees, and the ING Business Lines.
